Today, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan turned 70 years old! He was born on February 26, 1954 in Istanbul. After school, he enrolled in the religious lyceum Imam Hatip Lisesi, and then at the Faculty of Economics of Marmara University, from which he graduated in 1981. Back in 1975, he organized the youth movement of the National Salvation Party in Beyoglu. In 1982, Erdogan joined the army and returned to politics upon his return, representing the interests of The welfare Party. In 1994, the people of Istanbul elected him as their mayor.
In 1997, the Welfare Party was banned in Turkey and Erdogan resigned. He was even sentenced to 10 months in prison for Islamist propaganda. He spent four months in prison and was released early in July 1999. He created the Justice Party and became its chairman. In 2002, the party formed a parliamentary majority and in fact a one-party government.
In March 2003, Erdogan was appointed Prime Minister of Turkey and served in this post until August 2014. Having won 52% of the votes in the presidential election, Erdogan became the first national president of the country (previously, the president of the country was elected by parliament). In 2018, Erdogan was again elected president in early elections in Turkey. In the 2023 presidential election, which was held in two rounds for the first time, he again won with the coveted 52% of the vote.
Since 1978, the President has been married to Emina Gulbaran, with whom they raised four children together: sons of Necmeddin Bilal and Akhmet Burak and daughters Esra and Syumeyye. An interesting fact is that in his youth, Erdogan was a football player for the local Fenerbahce club, who even wanted to sign a contract with him, but Recep's father prevented this.
No separate celebrations have been announced on the occasion of the president's anniversary. The President will take part in the opening of a transport project in Istanbul and hold a meeting of the ruling party on preparations for the municipal elections on March 31.
