Statement by Erman Kaptanoglu regarding the earthquake in Hatay

February 21, 2023

After the earthquake that occurred in Hatay the day before, the echoes of which touched Antalya and Alanya, the chairman of the Antalya branch of the Chamber of Geophysicists, Erman Kaptanoglu, made a statement regarding the concerns of residents of the Antalya coast.
In his opinion, the Antalya region has always been prone to minor earthquakes, so one should not succumb to general panic.
The warning about the possible occurrence of a tsunami was more of a reinsurance, since it is extremely unlikely that half-meter waves will be able to harm Antalya in any way, and, moreover, Alanya, located in fact in the bay.
"We must remain calm and build buildings that meet all the requirements of earthquake resistance," E. Kaptanoglu said, concluding his speech.
