With the arrival of spring, green almonds chala (çagla) and plums (yesil erik) appeared on sale in the bazaars of Turkey. They are sold for a very short time, no more than 20 days, but they are in great demand among the local population.
Turks eat them raw, dipping them in salt and sometimes in olive oil. It is believed that unripe almonds and plums are rich in vitamins and minerals, and the female part of consumers also claims that they help to lose weight.
