Thousands of handmade carpets burn out in the sun in Antalya
We hasten to reassure - this is not a barbaric attitude of Turks to manual labor, but a long-standing tradition. Every year in Antalya, thousands of colorful carpets are laid out in the fields where wheat has recently been harvested. For days on end, the carpets will lie under the rays of the scorching sun. The purpose of this drying is to cleanse the products of germs and dust, and to produce softer colors of the carpets themselves. In the sun, the colors become softer and more muted. Such handmade carpets "aged" in the sun with a variety of traditional patterns are especially valued by foreign tourists. Their cost can reach several thousand dollars. These carpets are often purchased by buyers from the USA, Europe, Australia and Japan.
